About RimWorld:

RimWorld is a sci-fi colony sim driven by an intelligent AI storyteller. Inspired by Dwarf Fortress, Firefly, and Dune.

You begin with three survivors of a shipwreck on a distant world.
– Manage colonists’ moods, needs, wounds, and illnesses.
– Fashion structures, weapons, and apparel from metal, wood, stone, cloth, or futuristic materials.
– Tame and train cute pets, productive farm animals, and deadly attack beasts.
– Watch colonists develop and break relationships with family members, lovers, and spouses.
– Fight pirate raiders, hostile tribes, rampaging animals, giant tunneling insects and ancient killing machines.
– Trade with passing ships and trade caravans.
– Decorate your colony to make it into a pleasurable space.
– Dig through snow, weather storms, and fight fires.
– Capture refugees or prisoners and turn them to your side or sell them into slavery.
– Discover a new generated world each time you play.
– Build colonies in the desert, jungle, tundra, and more.
– Learn to play easily with the help of an intelligent and unobtrusive AI tutor.

RimWorld is a story generator. It’s designed to co-author tragic, twisted, and triumphant stories about imprisoned pirates, desperate colonists, starvation and survival. It works by controlling the “random” events that the world throws at you. Every thunderstorm, pirate raid, and traveling salesman is a card dealt into your story by the AI Storyteller. There are several storytellers to choose from. Randy Random does crazy stuff, Cassandra Classic goes for rising tension, and Phoebe Friendly just makes good things happen.

Your colonists are not professional settlers – they’re crash-landed survivors from a passenger liner destroyed in orbit. You can end up with a nobleman, an accountant, and a housewife. You’ll acquire more colonists by capturing them in combat and turning them to your side, buying them from slave traders, or taking in refugees. So your colony will always be a motley crew.

Each person’s background is tracked and affects how they play. A nobleman will be great at social skills (recruiting prisoners, negotiating trade prices), but refuse to do physical work. A farm oaf knows how to grow food by long experience, but cannot do research etc.

The game generates a whole planet from pole to equator. You choose whether to land your crash pods in a cold northern tundra, a parched desert plain, a temperate forest, or a steaming equatorial jungle. Different areas have different animals, plants, diseases, temperatures, etc.

People in RimWorld constantly observe their situation and surroundings in order to decide how to feel at any given moment. They respond to hunger and fatigue, witnessing death, disrespectfully unburied corpses, being wounded etc.

  1. When the Plague is over, I'll tell the people that I know who run 12 step programs "You know, you are going about this all wrong, you need to cut off their legs!"

  2. I knew all of these, however I wanted to point out that for a killbox is always a good idea to place a roof to be darkness. Darkness will slow down speed of raiders. Also if you want to slow down ever more place a stone chunck – empty tile – stone chunk it will slow down EVEN MORE than a continuous sandbags or sandbag – empty tile – sandbag.

  3. 10:56 You can also just click the planting zone and diable planting. Once the blight is taken care of, turn it back on.

  4. Orion exoskeletons work better than cutting legs off.

Install, then remove an Orion exoskeleton. The spine is left shattered, so no mental breaks, no prisoner escape attempts. When the colonist is over their addiction, or the prisoner is recruited, you can reinstall the same exoskeleton and give them a 40% speed boost.

This is why I tend to keep the Orion Corporation as an enemy until quite late in the game. Only when you start dealing with their heavies do the risks outweigh the benefits of keeping them off-side.

  5. bro you cure addiction with cutting the legs? lmao. just arrest them and re recruit them when rehabilitation process ends, its better than using prosthetics later.

  6. At 9:30 you could just disallow sowing so they don't plant then turn it back on after you dealth with the blight.

  7. you forgot that alone caveran usually appeared at early game contain good/excellent gun, and stuff it really nice to kill them to get it instead of buying

  8. Jesus, I just realized I've been giving people work priorities backwards….. I've given my cook a 4 prio to cooking and 1 to plant cutting etc. Jesus christ.

  9. I like capturing raiders and removing their arms and legs, giving them two peg legs and releasing them. It sends a message.

  10. So, I'm planning on buying Rimworld and was wondering if it's possible to build in areas other than the one you start in. Can you send a caravan to a neighboring tile and build an outpost, for example? And if not, is there a mod that allows you to do so?

  11. You're better off adding then removing a bionic spine. It's cheaper than two bionic legs i think.

  12. So get a psycopath to butcher dead people and cut legs from the addicted and only implant bionic ones when they are cured.

    Ok, noted it. ^^

  13. One thing about removing legs for addiction recovery. Usually you only need to remove one leg because one they have withdrawal symptoms it will lower their movement below the threshold.

  14. if you don't use nutrient paste you should design your kitchen/butcher area better into your fridge layout. my chef cooks 4 meals in the time your chef cooks one.

  15. Better than most tip vids, most of those vids literally show tips you learn in the tutorial, the loading screens or tips the game generally shares itself and when you point it out, you get spammed by fan boi's.
    Hmph*, I hate it here… 🙁

  16. Saio… Noooo….
He's in my colony, part of the first raid on my colony and I reformed him. He's been my mascot for over 4 years (ingame, of course). He has a big portion of his family there too, one by one they started defecting from the pirate faction and flee to my colony, asking for shelter.

And here he is, lying dead on the ground… and you just strip him.

The Rimworld Multiverse can be so cruel!

  17. I feel like I could just use that shift click method you taught earlier to command my Pawn to cut all the blighted plants first instead of just rearranging my priorities

  18. The leg trick also works great with prisoners. If you cut them off, there's no way they will attempt an escape or throw a tantrum and with how the recruit system works in Rimworld, you'll end up with recruiting them at some point.

  19. Instead of cutting off Drug addict's legs, just grow smokeleaf.

Once the addiction progresses and they get some serious withdrawal, smoking 1 smokeleaf joint will cause them to pass out, then you can prescribe 1 smokeleaf joint a day to keep them KO'd until they get past withdrawal.
